The Woodward Effect

Welcome to the Woodward Effect webpage.

Welcome to the safe, and somewhat boring, alternate page. All of the files available on the main page, are available here.

The Woodward Effect is named after Dr. James F. Woodward whose dream is to create technology that will allow mankind to cheaply travel to the stars. The theory behind the Woodward Effect can be found at http://physics.fullerton.edu/Woodward.html. Dr. Woodward prefers to give credit of these propulsion devices to Mach. Therefore Woodward does not refer to the theory as the Woodward Effect and instead uses the phrase Mach Effect. For now, this website is meant to document some of the recent developments that have occurred experimentally and theoretically which involve the Woodward Effect.

Experiments by Jim Woodward, Paul March, and Nembo Buldrini yield a mix bag of results. Jim's STAIF 06 experimental data agrees with theory within an order of magnitude, while Paul's STAIF '06 data is more than an order of magnitude greater than theory. Nembo's STAIF '06 data, for the most part, shows a null result, i.e. no thrust. An interesting exception to this is a thrust shown when both the inductor and capacitor are turned on (As predicted by the Woodward Effect), and a thrust within the same order of magnitude when ONLY the capacitor is turned on. (Not predicted by the Woodward Effect). More experiments need to be done to determine the validity of the Woodward Effect.

For recent and older articles concerning the Woodward Effect, refer to the official homepage for the Space Technology and Applications International Forum (STAIF). http://www.unm.edu/~isnps/staif/2006/index.html

Due to copyright issues, we do not plan to put published STAIF papers on this site. However, we do intend to put non-published Woodward Effect related articles and papers on this web site.

Enjoy,
